Assistance is available from P&K council for those who use a private water supply.
Through providing advice on cleaning and other measures, plus access to grants, the council’s Water Team can conduct a free assessment of private water supplies to help them to be safer for householders, their family and visitors to their home.
Grants of up to £800 per property are available. Applicants, whether owners or occupiers are not means-tested and additional funding is available for people on some benefits.

At Risk
Around a third of the private water samples taken in Perth and Kinross fail to meet current bacteriological standards due to the presence of potentially harmful bacteria. This means that consumers of private water supplies may be putting themselves at risk from waterborne illnesses such as E Coli O157, Cryptosporidium, Campylobacter and Salmonella.
Over 1000 P&K householders have already made use of the national grants available to make their water supply safe.  Feedback from local applicants has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents saying they would recommend the grants process to friends and neighbours.
Environmental Health Principal Officer Kirsty Steven said: “We are working hard to raise awareness of the funding available to local residents to help ensure their private water supplies are safe and reduce the risks that can come from untreated or poorly maintained supplies.
“There has been a good uptake so far and we hope that many more people who use private water supplies will apply for these grants.”
