Local architectural practices shone at the Dundee Institute of Architects Awards held in the Invercarse Hotel on 21 November.
The redeveloped Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy received the Supreme Award (sponsored by Andrew Shepherd Construction) with a project that has been billed as ‘having the same effect on the town as the V&A will have on Dundee’.
BoathouseWebBirksinteriorcafeWebAs a result, Robin Baker Architecture’s transformation (interior of cafe section shown here) of the 1930s structure will now be entered for the Doolan Award for the best building in Scotland.
Those designs also won the ‘Best client’ award (sponsored by Denfind Stone) and the Supreme Award (sponsored by Andrew Shepherd Construction).
Another local practice, Casa Architects, won the Best Residential Building (sponsored by Blackadders) for Rosslea, The Ross, Comrie.
Principal architect Colin A Smith of Dull was also delighted to pick up a commendation in the Best Small Project category for his work on the Dipper Boat House holiday hideaway on the banks of Loch Tay (also pictured).
